Pierce Gaynor of UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and
Chris Ruhl of Lehigh University are second recipients of this prestigious award

WASHINGTON, DC - February 6, 2017: Today the founders of Brigadoon and The Avalon Institute announced invitations were extended to graduate students at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and Lehigh University to attend Brigadoon 2017 in Sundance, Utah.

The Brigadoon Student Scholar is a program to invite promising graduate students who display unique leadership qualities to engage with seasoned entrepreneurs and thought-leaders at the yearly Brigadoon gathering in Sundance, Utah.
Marc Ross, founder of Brigadoon, and Perry Smith, co-founder of The Avalon Institute, issued this statement announcing the Brigadoon 2017 Student Scholar invitations:

Marc Ross: “When I first envisioned Brigadoon years ago, I wanted to create an intimate gathering that would connect entrepreneurs and thought-leaders as well as promising graduate students to spend a few days in a magical venue to exchange and try new business ideas. I have long felt that cross-generational dialogue is essential to fostering new business models, capturing new business opportunities, and solve challenging societal problems.

“As a graduate of UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School myself, I know first-hand the value of alumni providing opportunities for students to network and meet world-class leaders. I am thrilled to be able to provide this small opportunity to encourage business students to see the larger world and engage with people who are working to solve challenges in medicine, diplomacy, management, and performance.

“I am inspired that someone of Pierce's background and experience is second Brigadoon Student Scholar from UNC. I look forward to working with him and UNC Kenan-Flagler for years to come to identify and invite other promising leaders from UNC to attend future Brigadoon gatherings.”

Perry Smith: “I first attended Brigadoon in at the invitation of Marc Ross to speak on rapidly changing 21st-century leadership models and the acute need for companies to explore new methods of connection between employees and senior leaders. The informal nature of this conference was amazing and greatly facilitated the open exchange of ideas in a relaxed environment. Last year’s gathering was so inspiring that I formed a new entity called The Avalon Institute,  where we are now entirely focused on developing positive change models and neuroleadership tools for business leaders, entrepreneurs, and the United States military.

"Avalon is proud of our partnership with Lehigh University. We continue to receive invaluable feedback on our work and product development by way of an outstanding group of students and administrators at the Office of Leadership Development.  As an alumnus of Lehigh, I am thrilled to say thank you and extend the opportunity to one of these student leaders to participate and network with an outstanding group of entrepreneurs and business leaders at Brigadoon 2017!

"This year our student scholar is Chris Ruhl.  Chris is completing his Master of Engineering in Technical Entrepreneurship and embraces the creative mindset upon which Brigadoon was launched. Our long-term goal at Avalon is to partner with Brigadoon each year and provide the opportunity for a promising student scholar from Lehigh to attend future gatherings.”
